PROFILE OF GEORGE

Dr George Acheampong

George holds a PhD from the University of Ghana after completing coursework at the University of Copenhagen. George is a past DANIDA Growth and Employment Scholar. He has held fellowships at the Center for Entrepreneurship, University of South Florida, UNU-WIDER and DERG University of Copenhagen. His research interests are in how enterprise can lead to development in Africa utilizing market-based approaches. Specifically, He focuses on entrepreneurial strategies, development entrepreneurship, business failures, family business and international business.

Some of his works have also published in the International Marketing Review, Journal of Family Business Management, Journal of Small Business and Enterprise Development, and Journal of Enterprise Information Management. George teaches strategic entrepreneurship and international business at the University of Ghana Business School. He is a member of the Academy of Management (AoM), Academy of African Business and Development (AABD) and Development Economics Research Group (DERG-UCPH) and International Network of Social Network Analysts (INSNA). George is researching the digital gender divide in Ghana and Uganda with funding from the UK Research and Innovation Fund. He is also researching port efficiency as part of the new port expansion project with funding from the Danish Foreign Ministry.

In the past, he was a leading member of the team that implemented the Total Petroleum Start-Upper Entrepreneurial Competition in 2016 and 2019 that rewarded young entrepreneurs with innovative ideas that can create employment and economic growth. He was judge and trainer of the entrepreneurs. He also led a team of students to attend the Enactus 2016 competition in Toronto Canada where the team reached the semi-finals. He was the faculty advisor to the team. George has consulted for leading companies such as AngloGold Ashanti, Absa (Barclays) Ready to Work Programme, Ghana Post, National Lottery Authority, Comsys Ghana, Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (Ministry of Business Development) and the BUSAC Fund. George advises and assists the Centre for Sustainability and Environmental Action (CSEA) on the inclusion of innovative ideas in climate action projects to ensure project sustainability. He also provides strategies to ensure that marginalized people participate in project activities.
